Strøget, Copenhagen
A car-free shopping area in Copenhagen, Strøget is one of Europe's longest pedestrian streets. While it's most commonly visited by shoppers, the area is also known for its street performers and Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were married at the Church of Our Lady. The area was pedestrianised in 1962 and has steadily expanded since then.
Rue Saint-Catherine, Bordeaux
Bordeaux's Rue Saint-Catherine is one of Europe's longest pedestrian streets. Running for 1.2km, it became fully pedestrianised in 1984 and it's the city's main shopping street.
Buchanan Street, Glasgow
Once named Scotland's favourite street, Buchanan Street is the UK's second-busiest throughfare, only behind Oxford Street in the rankings. It's Glasgow's main shopping area and is usually busy from morning until night.
Shangxiajiu, Guangzhou
Shangxiajiu opened in 1995 and was the first business street in the Chinese city of Guangzhou. The street is located in the city's Old town and is home to several of its most famous shops including the Guangzhou Garment Store.
