Beautiful city becomes top holiday destination for UK tourists
An exciting city in New Zealand is fast becoming one of the UK's most popular holiday destinations.
Long-haul holidays might be more expensive but they give tourists the chance to explore an entirely different part of the world.
According to new research from the experts at Expedia, Auckland is one of the UK’s fastest growing holiday destinations.
Bookings for flights to Auckland from London on the platform soared by over 500 percent in 2023 compared to 2022. The platform currently has flights to Auckland starting from just £121.
Auckland is located on New Zealand’s North Island and it’s often known as the ‘City of Sails’ due to its iconic waterfront and harbours.
The city is framed by two harbours and is characterised by the iconic Sky Tower. It’s New Zealand’s largest city and tourists will find volcanoes and beaches just outside the centre.
The Sky Tower is Auckland’s top-rated attraction on Tripadvisor but Auckland Museum and Mount Eden are also highly regarded.
Hong Kong was the next fastest growing destination with interest rising by 500 percent in 2023.
Tokyo also saw a surge in popularity with a rise of over 400 percent in interest while Brisbane also proved popular.

Iceland is fast-becoming one of the UK’s leading holiday destinations with new stats showing it was pushing Barcelona and Amsterdam down the rankings. Winter sun is still an attractive prospect with both Dubai and Marrakech featuring high up in the rankings.
