Mason Greenwood hope shared by La Liga chief as Man Utd 'set for new offer'
Javier Tebas has spoken out on the possibility of Mason Greenwood remaining in Spain.
Interest in Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood continues to grow and La Liga president Javier Tebas holds hope that the 22-year-old will decide to stay in Spain. He is spending the season on loan at Getafe from the Red Devils but speculation is rife over his next destination.
Getafe are reportedly ready to open talks with United over extending his stay at the club next season as either a permanent transfer or another loan deal. However, the finances involved are thought to be prohibitive and the one-cap England man could end up elsewhere.
New United minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already opened the door for a potential return to Old Trafford. That came after interest from the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid over what could be a £34million summer deal, with a big decision over Greenwood’s future to take place in the coming months.
Tebas has claimed that La Liga would continue to welcome him, with the Spanish chief hoping that he stays in the league and turns down the prospect of a return to United.

At the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, Tebas said: “He’s doing really well at Getafe as a player and I hope he continues to be successful and he continues to stay in Spanish football because that’s always good for us. He is just another player. He had a past, but not a past we can do anything about. He was innocent and wasn’t condemned.
“We can’t be judges for everything. If we did that, we’d have no teams. I’m a lawyer, so it’s important to say he is not condemned. He was acquitted here (in the United Kingdom). Should we have reopened the case in Spain? Do I know the case in great detail? No. Greenwood was not condemned, so I don’t care.”

In February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that all charges against Greenwood would be dropped following the "withdrawal of key witnesses".
Greenwood has five goals and another five assists for Getafe this season, with his impressive performances drawing interest from elsewhere. While no decision is yet to be made over his future, United are looking to raise funds as they remain cautious of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
As many as 11 players could depart Old Trafford in a major shake-up under Ratcliffe and co, with Greenwood able to fetch pure profit if sold as a player that came through the club’s academy.
