The 5 cheapest UK towns and cities to buy a home as Brits abandoning London in droves
Yorkshire postcodes make up the top four cheapest places to buy a home outside London.
Brits are leaving London in droves and moving to the countryside, seeking more affordable homes.
The average house in London costs £733,000 but the average salary in the capital is just £44,000. Most mortgages are capped at 4.5 times that, which is just £198,000.
Because of this, people are leaving the city with many venturing into the north of England. Using Land Registry data, Online Marketing Surgery and Cardinal Steels has compiled a list of the cheapest postcodes to live in.
The cheapest place to buy a home is in Middlehaven, North Yorkshire, where homes cost just £49,833 on average.
Yorkshire postcodes made up the top four cheapest places to buy, with Bradford, Middlesbrough and Brambles Farm all having average house prices under £85,000. Shildon, County Durham, came in fifth, with homes selling for an average of just £86,993.

“Greater flexibility around working from home has made making a cross-country move more accessible for many.”
But not all postcodes outside of London are affordable, with some beating the capital’s average house price.
Cobham, Surrey, was the most expensive with the average home selling for £1.4million. Close behind was Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, where homes go for £1.3million.
